Kanye West:The Life of Pablo
The Life of Pablo is the newest album from Kanye West and it was supposed to be released on February 11, 2016. At time of writing this posts (11:45 AM PST, February 13, 2016), the album has still not been released for public consumption yet. Fans of Kanye West have been scouring the internet for the last two days trying to find piece of music from the album that they can. So far this has come down to pre-released songs and a video from the album release event where half the album was played. With this amount of information, I am going to attempt to write a short first impression of the album. As of early Saturday morning, Chance the Rapper posted what seems to be a finalized version of the track list. Of this list, there are only 3-5 songs that I haven’t heard at all.
My Impression of Kanye West’s T.L.O.P
I won’t go into a big breakdown of the album but here are my views after listen to parts of it. First off, I absolutely love where Kanye West went with this. The songs on this album include many of his staples such as heavy use of soul samples and a ton of super talented friends. He brought in many of his favourites (including Rihanna) and also introduced some up and coming talent (Post Malone & Chance the Rapper). However, I think where the album truly shines is in the fact that there isn’t necessarily a singular sound. In many ways, it feels like a compilation of sounds his discography. There are songs on here that would fit perfectly on his firs 3 albums. There are also other songs that would fit on the auto-tune heavy 808 & Heartbreaks, as well as the aggressive Yeezus. He said previously that he sees this album as a gospel album and there are definitely some very soulful parts to this album.
Many people believe that the Pablo in The Life of Pablo is Pablo Picasso and this albums fragmented direction would seem to support that. Come back to Twin Sheep for a full take on the album once the whole things comes out. Personally, I can’t wait to listen to The Life of Pablo all together.
